Fashion Runs in the Family

IMG_3667.jpg

Recently while visiting my family home, my mom casually handed me a garment bag. I opened the nondescript, somewhat tattered blue fabric bag to uncover the coziest wool sweaters I have ever felt. As I tried on each sweater, breathing in the scent of so many years and so many memories, I immediately knew I’d be taking these back with me. In just a few seconds, these sweaters felt like something I needed to pass down to my daughter.

A few moments later my nom revealed to me why these sweaters were so important to her- she had knitted them herself! Suddenly it made so much sense. The intricate patterns, with gorgeous detailing just isn’t something you can pick up on a clearance rack. Before this, I had always seen heirlooms as a way to pass on expensive things or objects with significant monetary value within a family. These sweaters have no monetary value; they’re much more, they’re priceless.

Doesn’t hurt that the oversized sweater trend is still in vogue today- so they’ll still get plenty of wear!
